Naming a business

I recently moved to Portland and have started a small bike repair service out of my garage. I have no license for my business. My question is this. There is a company called "The Recyclery" in town. My name is Abraham's ReCyclery. Recently the company called me and threatened to take me to court because they think the name "recyclery" is theirs and theirs alone. I do not mind changing it if I have to, but would rather not, since the website is built. Does anyone know if someone can trademark a generic name for their business?

Thanks,

Abraham
